I mentioned my 2012 Macbook and the Windows VMs because I use them for everyday work and they don't feel laggy at all. ![]() #9900k vmware workstation pro 14 windows 10I DO NOT expect "bare metal" performance from a Windows 10 guest on my Manjaro box. So I built a PC.Ī friend who loves Blender recommended Manjaro so here I am. I need to do LOTS of 3D rendering work and my Macbooks aren't going to cut it. I'm currently still using a 2012 Macbook that runs Windows XP, 7, and 10 guests with Parallels at reasonable (not laggy) speeds. #9900k vmware workstation pro 14 windows 7I've built Debian boxes for clients that run Windows 7 guests in VirtualBox. After reading through a number of different forums, I feel like I'm not alone so I'll go into some detail in case this thread ends up helping others. ![]() I've done a LOT of searching and reading and watching videos, and I feel like I'm close but I just can't get there. The goal for me was to have this run daily, but also be able to use the VM/host during the backup - I expected some resource utilization/contention, but being unable to use the host/VM during the backup defeats the purpose, as I could shutdown the VM and copy the VM folder faster than this process and would still be able to use the host.Īnyway, just wanted to give you my feedback and issues.I'm REALLY struggling to get 3D acceleration working in QEMU/KVM. Also note that the Event Viewer showed no suspect entries during the time the snapshot was being created and the system useability dropped dramatically. I even shut everything down and rebooted host and VM, just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but the same thing occurred when I kicked off the new backup. Once that step was reached, things were fine while it copied the snapshot to the backup target - I was able to use the host and VM. After 25 minutes, Vimalin indicated the snapshot was done and it moved onto copying the files. Mouse stutters, windows (host applications) unresponsive, VM completely frozen. It got to creating snapshot and the whole system becomes either partially or completely unusable (in waves). Okay, so I configured everything (I won't get into the UI/UX, but that could really use improvements) and let the scheduled job run.
